Toll Brothers and its partner Allegiant Electric, an independent full-service electrical contractor, have installed three stand up level two EV (electric vehicle) chargers at Cordillera, a new luxury townhome community in Las Vegas.
The chargers are intermittently spread throughout the community, including towards the entrance, middle and the end of the community. These are pay as you go/pay per use charging stations. The rates vary based on NV Energy’s rates. An EV installation within the home would be an amenity and additional charge.
Cordillera features three open-concept townhome designs (up to 2,154 sq. ft.) with attached two-car garages. Homes are starting at $568,995. The community offers rooftop deck options and a private community pool.
Andrea Vigil, COO and co-founder of Allegiant Electric, spoke to us about the challenges and opportunities of adding EV chargers in residential communities and commercial properties.
"The challenges are vast as the power infrastructure is not in place in new communities, existing homeowners often don’t take into account their main electrical panel sizing before purchasing an electrical vehicle and there is a shortage of trained installation workers. When it comes to developers and HOA, the benefits can be significant in rebates from NV Energy for the developers and while HOA may be okay with individual home use, public use may not be as popular by the HOA community," said Vigil.
