City of Las Vegas Seeks Community Input for Designing the Future of the Historic Westside
The city of Las Vegas is looking for public input for designing the future of Historic Westside. In 2023, the city was awarded a grant form the Commission for the Las Vegas Centennial to create a Historic Westside Design Guidebook to support development in revitalizing areas.
An informational session will be held on Wednesday, April 24th, from 6-7 p.m. at the Historic Westside School (330 W. Washington Ave.). All are welcome to attend. This will be the first of several input sessions to occur throughout 2024.
Last month, a new five-story, 104-unit multifamily project, broke ground in the Historic Westside. Developing by Cherry Development, shareDowntown is scheduled to open in 2026 and will located on six currently empty parcels of land in the Historic Westside neighborhood. The project will have a total of 13,000 sq. ft. of retail space. The main apartment building will have more than 8,400 sq. ft. of ground floor retail space, much of which will be leased by the city of Las Vegas for a business incubator program. Cherry Development will also build an adjacent 6,200 sq. ft. food hall to be used by the city of Las Vegas to support upstart food and beverage businesses. This is the first large-scale, ground-up new construction project in the Historic Westside in nearly 70 years.
shareDowntown has two other buildings in downtown Las Vegas - the first in the Arts District with 63 units opened in 2020 and the second with 84 units in Fremont East opened in 2023.
In February, the new West Las Vegas Library broke ground at 1861 N. Martin Luther King Blvd. The new library will be two stories and approximately 41,000 square feet in size, doubling the library’s current size. The new library is expected to open in fall 2025.
