Zoox announced it has received authorization from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to test drive its purpose-built driverless, electric robotaxi on open public roads with passengers in the state of Nevada.
To begin, the robotaxi will operate on an approximately one-mile loop navigating several unprotected turns and multi-way stops. The vehicle can transport four people at a time along this public route, at a speed up to 35 mph.
Zoox was founded in 2014 and first arrived in Las Vegas in 2019. To expand its operation in Las Vegas, Zoox is adding more than 190,000 square feet of warehouse space and 16,000 square feet of office space. This announcement follows the first public road deployment of the Zoox robotaxi in Foster City, California in February 2023.
