Last Saturday, Habitat for Humanity completed the framing of its 119th home in Southern Nevada with the assistance of Wells Fargo Bank volunteers.
Established in 1991, Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that builds single-family homes for working families earning less than 80% of Area Median Income. The home is sold at no profit through a zero-interest mortgage. Families volunteer their labor to help build Habitat homes, including the one they will eventually purchase.
Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas has two programs: Homeownership and A Brush with Kindness.
The homeownership program builds simple, decent and affordable homes, and then Habitat for Humanity sells those homes, at no profit, to qualified families with a $0 interest mortgage loan. The nonprofit is currently building The Pittman Project, which includes 20 single family homes in Henderson. Each of these homes will have 2-3 bedrooms with new appliances and private backyards. The community is close to major bus lines and shopping, elementary school, community center, Cowabunga Water Park, Boys & Girls Club and the newly-built Henderson Hospital.
"It's a steppingstone, a cornerstone for me to move forward. It's a home for my son. I can provide for my son and give him a place to live and grow and to learn. The endless hours and literally blood, sweat, and tears that everyone put into this, it is something that I'll cherish for the rest of my life," said Tiffany Torres, 110th Habitat Homeowner.
A Brush with Kindness program helps low-income homeowners with home modifications, minor home repairs and critical repairs.
