Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak announced his leadership team is developing a statewide strategy in dealing with extreme heat. In addition, he is forming an environmental justice team to implement the federal Justice 40 Initiative to take actions on climate change for the State.
According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, “Environmental justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations and policies.”
“Low-income households and historically marginalized communities are bearing the brunt of the impacts of climate change, particularly when it comes to extreme heat. I am proud to have inter-agency teams that are focused on climate and environmental justice working together to develop this plan,” said Governor Sisolak.
The State Environmental Justice Team and Extreme Heat Planning Team will work with both the public and private sectors to create the most comprehensive plans possible.
