CARSON CITY, NV - According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s (DETR) April 2023 economic report, Nevada lost 2,900 jobs over the month. Employment is up 61,600 jobs since April 2022, an annual increase of 4.2%. The total employment level in the state is 1,540,300. The state’s unemployment rate in April is 5.4 percent, decreased by 0.1 percentage point from 5.5 percent in March and increased by 0.2 percentage points when compared to April 2022.
Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) Employment (Seasonally Adjusted):
- Las Vegas employment decreased by 500 jobs (0.0%) since March, an increase of 52,700 jobs (4.9%) since April 2023.
- Reno employment had no change since March, an increase of 10,100 jobs (3.9%) since April 2023.
- Carson City employment had a decrease of 200 jobs (-0.6%) since March, an increase of 1,200 jobs (3.9%) since April 2023.
“This month’s release continues the trend of recent months, with relatively strong employment growth over the past year but also a high unemployment rate compared to other states. Our change in employment from March to April was somewhat weaker than expected for this time of the year, particularly among full-service restaurants, retail trade, and other personal services.” said David Schmidt, Chief Economist.
