Special Olympics Nevada Hosted Unified Bowling Tournament in Henderson
Last Saturday, Special Olympics Nevada hosted an Unified Bowling Tournament in Henderson. Unified tournament means it combines approximately equal numbers of athletes with and without intellectual disability on sports teams for training and competition. Special Olympics Nevada has a program called Unified Champion Schools. It is a unique education program in PreK – Transition schools (ages 18-22). The program unifies students with and without disabilities through sports and Whole School Engagement. These activities educate students with the skills necessary to sustainably develop school communities that promote inclusion, acceptance and respect for all students.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This gives them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
