Howard Hughes Corporation Breaks Ground on Two New Office Buildings in Summerlin

The Howard Hughes Corporation, developer of Summerlin, has broken ground on a new Class-A office complex consists of two three-story buildings on an 8.8-acre site in Summerlin South.

The two buildings, each spanning 73,500 square feet, are connected by a first-floor lobby.EV&A has designed the buildings to LEED Silver standards. Kalb Industries is the general contractor. The project is slated for completion in the third quarter of 2023.

Mandalay Bay Announces $100 Million Remodel of Convention Center

Last week, Mandalay Bay announced a $100 million remodel of its 2.1 million square feet convention center. The remodel includes significant technology upgrades, digital signage, and a new design complementing Mandalay Bay’s tropical ambiance.

In addition to the convention center, Mandalay Bay will remodel all 424 rooms and suites at the Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas next year, add Flanker Kitchen + Sports Bar in summer 2023 and complete the redesign of STRIPSTEAK in early 2023.

Q&A: Dr. René Cantú, Executive Director of Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates, on Helping Youth to Graduate and Find a Career Path

Dr. René Cantú is the founding Executive Director of Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates (J4NG), a nonprofit created by the state of Nevada to help Nevada’s youth of promise to graduate successfully and find a rewarding career pathway.

Dr. Cantú has worked in higher education as Vice President of Multicultural Affairs for Nevada State College. He has served on the board of directors of the Latin Chamber of Commerce, and in 2008, served as Vice Chair. In 2020, Dr. Cantú was elected as a Member of the Nevada State Board of Education representing Congressional District 4, and is a passionate advocate for educational opportunity for all Nevada students.

Growing up as a so-called at risk student in his youth who was tracked into a non-college path, he firmly believes that students and their parents should determine how far they can go in life, and that education is the key to prosperity and a brighter future.

Climate Action TEDx Event Announces Speakers and Performers, October 22 in Downtown Las Vegas

An all-day climate action TEDx event will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, in Downtown Las Vegas. Representatives from Red Rock Audubon, Las Vegas Indian Center, and The Nature Conservancy are among the speakers scheduled to appear at “Succor the Southwest.” Workshops and activities will focus on composting, sustainable fashion, mending clothes so they can be reused, and a clothing swap for attendees. Poet Laureate Vogue Robinson will also lead a climate poetry workshop.

The event is free and open to the public. However, seating is limited and RSVP is strongly encouraged.
